This site is about a new education system. About the struggle of parents trying to find a better alternative for their children upbringing. World is changing fast, previous education methods don’t apply anymore. New principles should be taken into consideration, like: “If you don’t love them, don’t teach them”, “learn how to learn”, etc. We believe the first priority is for children to enjoy their childhood. Development of skills and good character should occur in a more playful environment. Knowledge is less important today (anyone can carry an encyclopedia on a cell phone), but skills are more important. Also character should count more than academic formation.
We believe that learning music should be an important part of a good education. But that’s not easy – most kids don’t like to learn and practice an instrument daily. So we tried a different method: choose – not the piano – but an instrument with a warmer and friendlier sound (i.e. harpsichord on electronic keyboard) and different music styles – not classical – but medieval fairy tale music and also carefully selected rock songs. The results have been excellent. The kids, without much effort, got as far as to play, calmly, in front of a huge audience, as an opening act for Rammstein in Denver Coliseum(!!)… More info at http://childrenmedievalband.wordpress.com/
For now this is still on a ‘under construction’ stage. Maybe later we’ll be able to organize the ideas better. Also this has been written by a parent for whom the English is the second language. We insist mostly on the music learning here. For kids under 10 this is very important, according to our belief and experience.
We insist on medieval music as a good choice for most preteen kids because has been so grossly disregarded in the past. It may not work well for everyone. It worked very well for us and it should for many others.
